A number of people were stranded in Jaffna town last evening without transport, when they arrived in the town on their way to celebrations at the Nagapooshani Amman Kovil (temple) in Nainatheevau, said sources in Jaffna.
The public had started filtering into the town from morning from other parts of the peninsula, but most people could come only by evening because the counters from where they had to obtain passes to travel to Nainatheevu were not adequately manned. When they arrived in Jaffna town on the way to the temple, people found that there was no public transport either to Nainatheevu or back to their homes. Residents of Palai, Pt. Pedro and Mallakam were seen at the Jaffna bus stand around 7:00 p.m. desperately looking for transport with curfew at 9: 00 p.m. fast approaching, said sources.
