Trincomalee Lord Konesar procession to be held Monday

Three-day procession of Lord Konesar with his consort Mathumai Ambal annually held after Maha Sivarathiri Day is scheduled to begin on Monday afternoon city of Trincomalee. Devotees carry the chief deity from Koneswaram Temple from the Swami Rock inside the Fort Frederick to the entrance of the Fort. From there deities will be kept on a decorated chariot and will be taken in a procession.
The first day procession in the east port town would cover the areas, Ehambaram Road, Linganagar, Thirukadaloor, Orr's Hill and Inner Harbor Road, Sivapuri. The second day procession will begin from Sivan Temple Tuesday evening and would cover Thirugnanasambanthar Street, Madathady Muttukumaraswamy Kovil road, Rajavarothiam Road and Vidiyalayam Road. The third day procession would begin on Wednesday evening from Pathirakalai Ambal Temple and would conclude at Koneswaram Temple inside the Fort Frederick covering several roads in the Grand Bazaar area, temple society in a statement said. Currently hundreds of troops of the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Army are deployed in the east port town since the erection of statue of Lord Buddha in the vicinity of the Trincomalee central bus stand. Since last December Trincomalee town experienced violence including the execution style killing of Tamil students.
