University educational activities, suspended end of last year due to impediment caused by the presence of State armed troops in university environs and resulting violent incidents, are to recommence partly Wednesday 8th March, University Student Union said in a press release issued Thursday. If lectures and examinations for the final year students take place without any incidents, lectures will be extended to other faculties, the press release added.
The press lease follows the Wednesday meeting between the Student Union representatives and Vice Chancellor C. Mohanadas. The continued presence of the armed forces in areas close to the University and difficulty experienced by outstation students finding places to stay were the main obstacles in returning to normalcy, said the Student Union. Until an atmosphere of normalcy around the campus is resumed it will not be possible for the students to pursue their educational activities, added representatives of the Student Union.
