Trinco Ambal Temple chariot festival held[TamilNet, Tuesday, 11 April 2006, 23:55 GMT]The eleven-day annual festival of historic Trincomalee Paththirakali Ambal Temple concluded with the chariot (Ther) festival on Monday morning and the water-cutting (Theertham) event in the Back Bay Sea on Tuesday early morning with large number of devotees participating. The chief deity Goddess Ambal was taken in a chariot with Lord Ganeshan and Lord Murugan in two other chariots leading the Ther festival on Monday. Devotees carried Goddess Ambal Tuesday early morning to a site in Back Bay Sea Beach named "Theertha Kadatkarai" for water-cutting festival. The annual festival commenced with flag hoisting event on April 01st and daily Pooja and thiruvilazh was conducted for nine days. According to chronicles, the temple was built during the reign of King Rajendra Cholan the First in the eleventh century.
