One Sinhalese killed in Seruvila, one Tamil escapes death in Muttur

Unidentified gunmen shot dead a Sinhalese person identified as Pushpakumara Monday afternoon around 1.30 p.m. in Block-C of Seruvila police division. Meanwhile, an attempt made by two unidentified persons to kill Mr.K.T.Ponnudurai, Grama Sevaka Niladhari of Pattithidal in Muttur police division around 3 p.m. Monday was foiled, Muttur police sources said.

Mr.Ponnuthurai in a complaint to Muttur Police said when he was going home after work, one of the two unidentified persons followed him in a bicycle, and had pressed a pistol on his neck. The pistol slipped. When the suspect tried to shoot at him second time he hit back at the pistol with his official diary book and was able to prevent the attacker from firing the pistol. Mr Ponnudurai thereafter was able to run inside his house located close by, according to the filed complaint.

On receipt of information Muttur Police visited Mr.Ponnuthurai in his house and recorded his statement. This incident had taken place in the middle of the Muttur town near a Christian church, Police said.
