Fifteen thousand Tamils in Muttur east flee for safety

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 26 April 2006, 07:38 GMT]
More than fifteen thousand Tamil people of about four thousand and five hundred families from Chenaiyoor, Kaddaiparichchan, Koonitheivu, Soodaikuda, Kadatkaraichenai, Santhoshapuram and several hamlets in the Muttur east Wednesday morning gathered in the village Pattalipuram in Muttur east fearing of more air strike and artillery fire. These families started walking toward Pattalipuram while SLAF Kfir jet resumed its bombing Wednesday early morning.

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) immediately organized shelter Pattalipuram Thileepan Hospital premises and supplied cooked meals for these families. Pattalipuram Poonchcholai Makkal Development Organization is also providing meals and other assistance to the displaced.

TRO has decided to request the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) to assist to take relief supply to Muttur east, sources said.

Displaced Tamil families are in a dilemma to find secure place during air strike and artillery fire as they feel even staying in Pattalipuram is also not safe for them. Some of the families are on their way to Eachchilampathu, which is also held by LTTE, sources said.
