South Eastern University VC escapes assassination attempt

Mr.A.G.Hussain Ismail, Vice Chancellor (VC) of the South Eastern University located in Oluvil in Amparai district escaped an assassination Friday morning around 10.30 a.m., Kalmunai police said. The VC escaped unhurt when unidentified persons came in a motorbike fired at his car four times when he was on his way to the varsity from his official guesthouse, police in the southeastern town said.

The guesthouse is located about 4 km off Oluvil and the incident occured at Meenodaikaddu along Kalmunai-Akkaraipattu main road, according to the Police said.

Kalmunai Police rushed to the site to conduct inquiries.

Three bodyguards and another person who were traveling with the Vice Chancellor also escaped unhurt in the incident. The car was damaged, the police said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of undergrads, lectures and teachers held a one-hour demonstration after Friday Jumma prayers in the premises of South Eastern University located in Oluvil in Amparai district, condemning the attack on the Vice Chancellor.
