SLA cordons, searches Chenkalady

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police cordoned off and searched Chenkalady public market area in the Earvur police division Batticaloa Monday between 9 a.m and 12 a.m, arresting 16 persons, said Eravur police.
The search was launched on information that some jewellery
robbed in the Eravur police division are being sold in the jewellery shops in Chenkalady, said the police. During the past four months more than 30 robberies have been reported from Thannamunai, Mylambaveli, Armugathan kuddiruppu, Eravur, Chenkalady, Vantharumoolai, Thalavai, Kommanthurai, Mavadivembu, Chanthiveli in the Earvur police division, added the sources. Four of the 16 arrested were detained for further inquiries while the rest were released after initial inquiries. The detained persons will be released after consultation with their respective Village officers, said the police. Meanwhile, the police said that those arrested last week have been released Saturday 22nd.
