Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops and Police conducted combined cordon and search operation Thursday morning in the predominantly Tamil areas of the Trincomalee town. Security forces took sniffer dog to detect any explosives and
claymore mines concealed in houses. However no explosives were found and no suspects were arrested during the operation, Trincomalee police sources said.
Meanwhile the Trincomalee Police have prohibited motorcycles andbicycles entering the port city with immediate effect for security reason. The Police have allocated places to park motorcycles and bicycles. The police have advised members of the public that motorcycles and bicycles
should remain parked either in allocated places or within the private premises. The police have said the prohibition will be in force until further notice, sources said. Police sources said the prohibition has been enforced to ensure bicycles and motorcycles are not used to launch claymore attack on government troops in the east port town.
