Three attacks in Jaffna, policeman, SLA soldier killed

One Pollice constable was killed on the spot and two police officers seriously injured in a claymore explosion along Point Pedro, Jaffna Road in Puraporukki in Vadamaradchy district at 3.45 p.m.Friday, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, in Urikadu, Valvettiturai (VVT) one Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier has been reported killed, one soldier and a policeman were wounded, in a grenade attack around 12 noon by unknown men. Another attack on SLA troopers was reported at 4:45 p.m. at Maruthanarmadam in Valikamam.
All traffic remained blocked at Marutharmadam around 5:00 p.m. Friday. The claymore explosion at Puraporruki was targetted against a three vehicle convoy that came from Palaly military base towards Point Pedro. The two injured Police constables were immediately taken to the Palaly military hospital in a private vehicle that came by the site of the explosion, sources said. The explosion occured amid preparations by the relatives of the seven youths killed by SLA, to hold funerals Friday afternoon. The location of the explosion was nearly 0.5 km from the location in Navindil where seven youths were killed by SLA RPG fire Thursday.
