There is no restriction on food or medicines supplied to the Wanni as stated by certain reports, said Radio Sri Lanka (RSL), quoting a press release from the Ministry of Defence (MOD), in its broadcast tonight.
It attributed the story to false propaganda spread with the aim of giving a wrong impression to visiting delegates for the South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation (SAARC) summit, scheduled to be held from 29-31 July. RSL said however that there were items that were banned and could not be transported to the Wanni such as military equipment, uniforms, pen-torch batteries and communication equipment. The 198,000 refugees in the Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Vavuniya districts continued to get food and medical supplies, said RSL.
