Three-day general shut down begins in Trinco

Three-day general shut down began in Trincomalee town and its suburbs Thursday in response to the call made by Pongu Tamil Forum (PTF) of Trincomalee district condemning the genocide and extra-judicial killings of Tamil civilians in the North East and the recent three-pronged air, sea and ground attack on Muttur east killing fourteen Tamil civilians including children, sources said.
PTF of Trincomalee district has called for three-day general shut down till 13th Saturday bringing the normal life of the east port town to standstill, sources said. The entire town was deserted without traffic and civilian movement. Schools did not function. Offices of central government, provincial council and local bodies did not function, as majority of workers boycotted the work. Provincial council employees also did not report for work without heeding to the direction of the provincial governor that they would be liable for one day pay-cut, sources said. Business establishments of all communities were closed down. Government troops and policemen have been put on red alert to maintain law and order, sources said.
