SL army launches artillery fire towards Muttur east

Sri Lanka Army Thursday evening around 5.45 p.m. started artillery attack from its Monkey Bridge military installation towards LTTE controlled Muttur east villages following a confrontation between Sri Lanka Navy and LTTE. Monkey Bridge SLA military installation is located along Trincomalee-Colombo road about fifteen km off southwest of east port town, sources said.
Artillery fire first started around 5.45 p.m. and continued for about half an hour. More than twenty artillery shells including a multi-barrel shell were fired toward Muttur east villages. Artillery fire is continuing, sources said. Meanwhile a sea-monitor of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) who was at the scene of the confrontation Thursday afternoon with his aide returned to east port town evening 4.45 p.m., SLMM sources said.
