The Munmunai Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) unanimously voted on Wednesday to inform police authorities in charge of the Kattankudy police area, that in future they should take down statements in Tamil, said sources in Batticaloa.
The Kattankudy police area covers Kallady and Kirankulam, while Kattankudy itself is 7 km south of Batticaloa. Kattankudy is an economically booming and densely populated Muslim town. Statements at Kattankudy police station are recorded in Sinhala now. The Pradeshiya Sabha is to write to the police authorities about its resolution. However the inconvenience caused to the public by this problem has been brought to the notice of the police authorities in Kattankudy before, but it was disregarded and no action taken, said sources.
