Toronto Tamils mark 'Black July'

(Adds. photo)The world Tamil Movement (WTM) of Canada held an exhibition and rally Saturday evening in Scarborough, Toronto to mark 'Black July', the anti Tamil pogrom of 1983 in Sri Lanka. TamilNet's Toronto correspondent said that more than four thousand people attended the event.

Mr.Bill Graham Member of the Canadian Parliament and three provincial legislators addressed the meeting at the Birchmount stadium.

Three Canadian Human rights activists also spoke. The Canadian legislators expressed their solidarity with the Sri Lankan Tamil cause.

A member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament said that the Tamils' right to self determination should be recognised.

The main speaker at the rally was Mr. Supa Veerapaandian from Tamil Nadu, India, the editor of the political magazine 'Nanthan'.

Another speaker, who addressed the WTM rally, Thirukkural Kanaka Suppurathinam, was also from Tamil Nadu.
