White Pigeon Prosthesis Institute, with the financial assistance of UNICEF, has donated tri-wheeler bikes to 10 disabled persons in Killinochchi Monday.
Administrative Officer of White Pigeon Organisation Mr. Chandrasegarampillai with UNICEF Representative Mr. Umesh, donated the tri-wheeler bikes. The organisation, by introducing employment schemes for disabled, will be expanding the tri-wheeler bikes project also to Mullaithivu, Vavuniya and Mannar district, according to Chandrasekarampillai. Each of these tri-wheeler bikes cost Rupees 15 000. The Institute, which was inaugurated in Jaffna during the 1990s, and moved to the Vanni following the mass exodus from Jaffna in 1995, has been providing necessary assistance to the disabled by manufacturing artificial limbs with available technical expertise. The organisation also conducts awareness programmes among the masses about landmine danger, and assists the disabled by supplying tools and materials needed for them to sustain themselves on their own by designing self employed projects.
