M. Thayaparan, Division Secretary (DS), Aalayadivembu Division, Akkaraipattu, 60 km south of Batticaloa, in the Amparai District, was transferred to Colombo with immediate effect, following a complaint by M. Jegathees, Member of the Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) of the area to the Ministry of Public Administration, said sources in Batticaloa.
A two man committee of the Ministry of Public Administration has now been appointed to probe his dealings. In his complaint Mr. Jegathees said that the DS did not take an interest in the welfare of the people in the area and worked only for himself. He also alleged that Mr. Thayaparan was corrupt. Following the DS's transfer to Colombo and the arrival of the Committee, posters have come up in the area stating that complaints against Mr. Thayaparan should be forwarded to the District Secretary, Amparai with a copy to the Ministry of Public Administration, said sources. The posters are signed, 'people's organisations'.
