Police sentry attacked in Mannar, no casualties

Unidentified persons fired at a sentry of the Sri Lanka Police located at Katkadanthakulam junction on Mannar-Madawachchi Road, about 30 km off south of Mannar town Wednesday morning around 6.30 a.m. Police returned the fire. Casualties were not reported from both sides, police sources said.

Katkadanthakulam village is located about two km inside from the Katkadanthakulam junction, sources said.

Later the Police visited the village and took the residents to a nearby church. Police officials sought the assistance of the villagers in curbing the violence in the area and also asked them to provide information about strangers coming to the area, sources said.
