Several student representatives addressed the meeting expressed deep concern over the indifference shown by the officials of some international organizations, particularly the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) when the Sri Lanka Army soldiers manning the checkpoint at Kaddaiparichchan camp refused to allow a seriously injured woman in the aerial attack by the Sri Lanka Military being taken to a hospital in Sri Lanka Army controlled area in Muttur town from the LTTE controlled Muttur east. "We made several requests to the ICRC personnel in the area to provide assistance to transfer the woman to a hospital in the government controlled area but proved futile," students lamented. "Thereafter another attempt was made to take the injured woman to Batticaloa hospital. But SLA soldiers manning the checkpoint at Panichchankerni in the down south of Trincomalee district also refused to allow to that woman being taken to Batticaloa government hospital. Finally the woman had succumbed to injuries sustained in the aerial bombing without prompt medical attention," students revealed. "The ICRC elsewhere in other countries has been providing prompt attention to the injured in the war-torn areas whether it is controlled by the government or militants. But in Sri Lanka especially in the North East we are disgusted with the services provided by the ICRC. We deeply express our concern that ICRC in Trincomalee district has not contributed its services to the affected by the conflict," said several student leaders. Section of students.
