Civilian shot dead in Vahaneri

A yet un-named civilian was shot and killed in front of his wife at Natrapaalathadi on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m allegedly by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers. The couple were cycling from the LTTE controlled area in Vahaneri, Mullivettavaan in the Batticaloa District to Oddamaavedi when the attack took place, said Daya Mohan, the political head of the LTTE for the Batticaloa District.

Natrapaalathadi enroute from Ottamaavedi to the LTTE controlled area in Vahaneri. The name and other details of the victim and his wife are yet unknown. Natrapaalathadi is located about 1.5 kilometers from Oddamaavedi, and 33 kilometers north of Batticaloa. Meanwhile, Daya Mohan, the Political Head of the LTTE for the Batticaloa District, said that the SLA soldiers in Vavunathivu, from 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, have been firing rocket propelled grenades (RPG) towards the LTTE Forward Defense Line (FDL) posts.
