Driver arrested for transporting empty fertilizer bags

The Mannar Magistrate Mr.N.M.M.Abdullah Tuesday evening ordered remand the driver of a vehicle belonging to Mannar Seed Paddy Association until June 15 based on a report by the Police that he was transporting about 72,000 empty fertilizer bags allegedly for the LTTE, legal sources in Mannar said. Mr.Marimuthu Nallamuthu, driver aged 63 was arrested with a consignment of empty bags at Manatkulam Monday, sources said.

Mannar Seed Paddy Association sells seed paddy to farmers and normally these empty bags are used to carry the seed paddy, sources said.

The SLA handed over the suspect to the Mannar Police on Tuesday afternoon and later he was produced in Magistrate's Court.

Mr Nallamuthu is from Mottakadai in Nanattan, Mannar.
