Arson destroys Rs. 0.2m worth of property in Eravur

Nearly Rs. 0.2m worth contents of a house located at Pannikkar Rd, Eravur in the Eravur police division were destroyed by fire, suspected to be arson, Thursday night, Eravur Police said. Police said they believe a family dispute was the cause of the arson and the suspect, Mohamad Kabir, is helping with the inquiries.

Police said owner of the property, Vellathambi Bebe, had been out of the house since June 11 to receive relatives coming from abroad.

The suspectes had entered the house and set fire to all of the contents of the house and the damamge was estimated to be more than Rs.2, 043, 000.00, Police said.

Eravur is located 12 km north of Batticaloa town.
