State funeral for Major General Kulatunga

The funeral of Major General Parami Kulatunga, is expected to take place with full State honors at 6:00 p.m. at the Borella Kanatte cemetary Wednesday, Sri Lanka Government sources in Colombo said. The funeral cortege will begin its journey from Maj.Gen.Kulatunga's brother's house in Kelany Maithri Mawatte to the Kanatte cemetary, sources said.

Key roads in Colombo, including Kings Road, Baseline Road, Elpitigala Mawatte and the associated feeder roads will be closed for traffic during the afternoon until the completion of funeral ceremony, transport authority officials said.

Security has been strengthened in Colombo and suburbs after the suicide attack that killed Maj.Gen. Parami Kulagunge Monday. New chieckpoints in Galle Face Green, Maradana, Borella, Colombo 7, Kotahena have been established and increased checking are being conducted in areas where there are a concentration of Tamils, sources said.

Vehicles entering down town Colombo are stopped and checked at the Kelani Bridge, Dehiwela and Kirillaponna areas, sources in Colombo said.
