Lions Club of Trincomalee Town gets new President

Mr.A.S.James Samathar, an industrialist has been appointed President of the Lions Club of Trincomalee for the ensuing year 2006-2007. The installation of new office bearers and the fifteenth charter event of the Trincomalee Town Lions Club were held Sunday at Trincomalee New Silver Star Hotel. Mr. Asoka Premaretna, Past District Governor of Lions Club administered oaths of allegiance to the new President and other officials, sources said.

The outgoing President Mr.A.Ramanan handed over the reign to the successor.
Mr.Asoka Premaretna and his wife Champa were the guests. "Lions Club of Trincomalee Town during the current year will be in the forefront of community service as in the past, to take care of people's need, rights and responsibilities. Therefore our role is crucial importance at this juncture and this is very challenging," said Mr.James Samathar in his acceptance speech. He added," It is my determination to work in close co-operation and collaboration with all humanitarian agencies in the district with the good intention of fostering goodwill, cohesiveness and common approach of the greater good of the community at large. Let us bear in mind that we, Lions, have to keep pace with the rapidly changing world and seriously commit ourselves to deal with emerging problems, trends and ever increasing challenges that confront mankind." Past Presidents and Charter members of the Lions Club of Trincomalee Town were also honoured at the event. Ms J.Umashankary and Mr.K.Kamaleshwaran were appointed Secretary and Treasure respectively for the ensuing year, sources said.
