Two civilians shot dead in Jaffna district

Two civilians were shot to death by unidentified gunmen in separate killings in Jaffna district Saturday night, sources in Jaffna said. Thiagarajah Rathumilan, 30, from Uduvil Road, Manipay was shot dead at 7:30 p.m. and Arumugam Uthayasooriyan, 43, driver attached to the local Pradeshya Sabah, from Thambachetti in Vadamaradchy was killed at 8:00 p.m.

Motives for the killings are not known.

Rathumilan's house is located near the Uduvil Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp. His body has been transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital, hospital sources said.

Uthayasooriayan's body was discovered near Pandariyamman Temple in Thambachetti. His body has been taken to the Manthikai General Hospital located 3 km from the crime scene.
