Youth shot dead in Jaffna

A youth who worked in a garage as an auto-mechanic was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Siruppidy, Valigamam East, Jaffna at 7:50 p.m. Monday, sources in Jaffna said. The youth, Tharumu Theesan, 24, was returning home from work along the Sripiddy Cemetary road when he was fired at by two men who followed him, witnesses said.

Theesan was a resident at Annamar Kovilady, Siruppidy South, local residents said.

According to eye witnesses Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were seen in the area several minutes before the crime was committed but had disappeared from the scene when Theesan was killed.
