EPDP cadre shot dead in Valaichchenai

A paramilitary cadre belonging to Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP) was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Meeravodai, Valaichchenai, Wednesday night, sources in Batticaloa said. K Rajanikanth, 32, a father of two children, from 18th mile post Sunkankerni, was operating with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops based at the nearby Kommanthurai SLA camp, according to sources.

Rajanikanth was initially a paramilitary Karuna group member and changed allegiance to EPDP, recently. He was abducted Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. from his home by unidentified persons before being shot, Batticaloa sources said.

His body was found Thursday morning and was taken to the Valaichchenai General Hospital, said sources.

Meeravodai is located 27 km. northwest of Batticaloa.
