It has been reported that humanitarian assistance and other relief measures reaching war affected families in areas held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Amparai district has come to a halt due to ban by Special Task Force (STF) deployed at Kanchirankudah on officials engaged in such works visiting these villages." It's a crime against humanity," said Mr.Jeya, Amparai District LTTE political head.
Renovation of irrigation tanks and channels in LTTE held villages in Amparai district by World Bank funded North East Integrated Agricultural Project (NEIAP) has been suspended. Mobile medical clinics conducted in these villages by International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) have come to a halt, civil sources said. STF at Kanchirankudah is not allowing officials of these institutions to enter LTTE held villages to implement their projects, civil sources said. Bus services run by the Akkaraipattu depot located in the government controlled territory to and from LTTE held Thangavelauthapuram has been suspended on the orders of the Sri Lanka forces. Hence villagers in the LTTE held area are unable to obtain treatment from Thirukovil government hospital and also to buy their provision in the public markets located in the government controlled territory, civil sources said.
