Death toll increases to four in Anpuvallipuram shooting

The death toll in the Anpuvallipuram shooting incident that took place Sunday afternoon has risen to four. Two more persons succumbed to injuries in the Trincomalee general hospital Sunday night. A Tamil youth and a two year old girl died on the spot when unidentified armed men came in a van fired at them while they were in a house located along Ambal Road in Anpuvallipuram, a suburb in Trincomalee town.

The dead on the spot were identified as Jeyaratnam Pratheepan aged 23 and two year old Usharanee. One of the two youths died in the hospital had been identified as 28 year old Nagaretnam Jeyanthan. The other person who is said to be from Thiriyai was not identified yet.

Meanwhile Thayaparan Nishanthini, 25, has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. She is the mother of two year old Usharanee who was killed in the shooting.

Trincomalee Magistrate held the inquest into these killing and ordered post-mortem examinations.
