Hospital employees, driver shot dead in Trincomalee

Three civilians-two Tamils and one Muslim were shot dead by unidentified men in separate incidents Tuesday evening in Trincomalee district. Of them two had been employed in the Kantalai government hospital and the third person, private heavy vehicle driver, civil sources said.

V.Mathiaparanam of Alankerni and Mr.M.Sanoon of Kinniya had been working in the Kantalai hospital as pharmacist and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) respectively. On Tuesday evening around 5.30 p.m. they signed off in the Kantalai hospital and were returning to their home villages in a motorbike. Nearing 97th mile post at Arafa Nagar in Thampalakamam division located along Trincomalee-Kandy road two men followed them in another motorbike and had fired at them. Both hospital employees had died on the spot. The scene of crime is located close to a SLA camp, civil sources said.

In the second incident Mr.Sathityaseelan (Gerard), a heavy vehicle driver was shot dead by unidentified men Tuesday evening around 4.30 p.m. This incident took place at Ganesh Lane, a suburb in Trincomalee town.
