ICRC hands over bodies of slain LTTE cadres

Liberation Tigers Batticaloa District Commander Col. Ramesh, who had taken command recently, attended the funeral of three of the eleven Tiger cadres who were killed in an alleged Sri Lankan Special Task Force (STF) ambush inside the LTTE territory in Batticaloa. The bodies of the 11 Tiger cadres killed Saturday dawn in the counter-insurgency Special Task Force (STF) attack, were handed over to the Tigers by the Representatives of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) Sunday around 3.30 p.m, according to Batticaloa District LTTE Deputy Political Head, S. Seeralan.

The STF says the Tigers had entered the STF controlled area, but Tigers said the attack was an STF ambush and showed the Sri Lanka Monitorin Mission (SLMM) officials the attack site.

Col. Ramesh, newly appointed LTTE Batticaloa district Commander attended the funeral of three cadres held with military honours at the Thandiady LTTE Heroes Cemetary Sunday around 8.00 p.m, according to LTTE sources.

LTTE's Administrative Head of the Batticaloa District, Manoj, who accompanied Seeralan, released the names of the slain Tiger cadres.

Lt. Nanthapriyan (Sangarapillai Rajendran) 22 of Kalluthavali Batticaloa, 2nd Lt. Pavalanithan (Krishnapillai Vijayasingam) 18 of Pansolai, Kokadicholai Batticaloa, and 2nd Lt. Nilosan (Pathman Mohan) 18 of Vaikaya, Nayathuvetti Batticaloa were the LTTE cadres laid to rest at Thandiyady heroes cemetary.

The remains of the following 8 LTTE cadres are to be interred with military honours Monday, LTTE sources said.

  • Major Mathivanan (Ulahanathan Jeyabalan) 25 of Thothiyady Visvamadu Killinochchi,
  • Lt. Jeevithan (Sinnathurai Chithiravel) 18 of Sithandy, Batticaloa,
  • Lt. Thamilinban (Kanthasamy Ramachandran) 33 of Periya Pullumali Batticaloa,
  • Lt. Pullavanan (Kanthaiah Pushparajah) 29 of Periya Pullumali Batticaloa,
  • 2nd Lt. Niroshan (Selvaratnam Satheesh) 21 Kithool Karadiyanaru Batticaloa,
  • Veera Vengai Kalaikumar (Tharuman Nanthakumar) 22 Kithool Karadiyanaru Batticaloa,
  • Veera Vengai Komahan (Rajalingam Rajedran) 18 of Periya Pullumali Batticaloa,
  • Lt. Inithan ( Rejendran Regan) 18 of Uthuchchenai Batticaloa.
Krishnapillai Rajendran allias Paramananthan, an LTTE cadre, was seriously injured in this incident.
