Armed robberies escalate in Batticaloa

Masked gunmen robbed millions of rupees worth of jewelry and cash from civilian residences on Sunday and Monday nights inside the Batticaloa and Kattankudy Police limits, Police sources said.
Robbers wearing masks robbed in 2 houses located 1 km apart in the Kattankudy Police limits on Monday. The houses belonged to Ms. Mallikathevi Kirubairajah of Amman road, Navalady and Poosaimutththu Arulappu, in Dutch Bar, according to sources. Meanwhile, robbers entered the house of Poopalaratnam Thuraisingam of Seelamunai in Batticaloa Police limits and robbed jewels and cash Sunday night. Armed men also snatched two mobile phones on Sunday noon from Thangarajah Victor along Lake Road, Batticaloa and Kanthasamy Christopher along Kuda road, Sinna uppodai, police said.
