Akashi to visit Sri Lanka Sunday

Mr. Yasushi Akashi, representative of Government of Japan to Sri Lanka is to visit Sri Lanka on 15 October Sunday and will spend five days, a press release issued by Embassy of Japan in Colombo said Wednesday. Mr Akashi is expected to hold talks with the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers to promote the on-going peace efforts, the press release added.
Full text of the press release follows: Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan for Peace-building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka, will visit Sri Lanka from Sunday 15th October to Friday 20th October 2006. Considering the current situation in Sri Lanka where both the Government and the LTTE are in the process of making final preparations to hold direct talks on the 28th and 29th of October, Mr. Akashi is scheduled to meet officials of the Sri Lankan Government and the leaders of the LTTE with a view to enhancing this constructive effort and will also exchange views on the peace process and its future with leaders of political parties, international organizations and others. This is Mr. Akashi’s 13th visit to Sri Lanka since he was appointed as the Representative of the Government of Japan for Peace-building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka.
