Nimalarajan remembered by Jaffna Journalists

North Lanka Journalist Association (NLJA) assisted by Jaffna journalists observed 6th death anniversary of Mylvaganam Nimalarajan, BBC correspondent and a senior journalist, Thursday, civil society sources in Jaffna said. Members of the paramilitary Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) are widely believed to have been responsible for the 19 October 2000 killing.

Many journalists and public participated in a special mass held near the memorial stone for Nimalarajan located at St. Mary's church, Jaffna, attending journalists said.

Following the mass, meals were provided to the internally displaced people (IDPs) from Allaippiddy and Mandaithivu who are staying in a church in Jaffna town for more than 2 months.



In a press communiqu, NLJA criticized the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) for not bringing the murderers of Nimalarajan to justice and for allowing the accused to escape justice by dragging out the case.

"Nimalarajan loved his people, served for improving their lives, and worked in difficult circumstances to highlight the plight of Jaffna residents to the outside world. People of Jaffna still remember his service to his people," the communiqu further said.
