SLA shells injure two youths, child in Vaharai

Three members of a family including a 3 year old boy was seriously injured when high explosive artillery shells fired by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) from Valaichenai brigade and Sinhapura camps on residential settlelments in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled Vaharai areas in Batticaloa district at 6:00 pm Friday, hit their house, said sources in Vaharai. The injured were rushed to Vaharai hospital and are listed in serious condition, hospital sources said.
M.Sivanathan 28, M. Sivamalar 22 and M. Siyan 3 were seriously injured in the SLA shelling that continued for more than an hour, local residents said. Seven houses in the area were badly damaged by the shelling, said the sources. SLA resumed shelling again at 6:00 pm Saturday on Panichankerny and Salithivu areas in the LTTE territory, damaging further seven houses. No one was injured in the Panichankerny area as tge residents had already fled from their homes due to Kfir bombings and mortar attacks earlier. Many civilians have died and seriously injured due to the current SLA shelling of LTTE controlled areas while large number of livestock have died and injured. Many houses too were badly damaged, said the sources.
