SLFP, UNP MoU monitoring committees meet

The two high level committees appointed by the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP), main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government and the main opposition United National Party (UNP) under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by these two parties met Wednesday morning for the first time in the Sri Lanka parliamentary complex, parliamentary sources in Colombo said.

Prime Minister Mr.Ratnasiri Wickremanayake is the head of the SLFP committee and comprised Ministers Nimal Sripala de Silva and Maithiripala Sirisena. UNP committee was led by its former deputy leader Mr.Karu Jayasuriya. Other members were Mr.Joseph Michael Perera and Mr.Rukman Senanayake, Chairman of the UNP.

The two committees discussed ways to take forward the implementation of the identified issues.

The committees have agreed to meet once every two weeks in the parliamentary complex.

The participants in Wednesday's meeting decided to open an office in the parliamentary complex to facilitate the committees to carry out the mandated functions, sources said.
