Relatives appeal to abductors for VC's release

Relatives of the abducted Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. S. Raveendranath issued an urgent appeal Sunday requesting those who had abducted Prof. Raveendranath to kindly release him. Dr Malaravan, son-in-law of the VC said that the members of Raveendranath's family will ensure that the Professor will resign his post of Vice Chancellor at the Eastern University.
The Vice Chancellor, was reported missing from the High Security area in the Bauddhaloka Mawatta, from 1:30 p.m. Friday. Dehiwela Police has not been able to get any information on the whereabouts of Prof Raveendranath or on the details of the abductors. The appeal was made from the address at 10c, 2/1 Gregory Road, Dehiwela. Phone: 0112573521. On 30 September, unidentified gunmen, widely believed to be from Karuna group, came in a white van, kidnapped the Dean of Arts faculty at the EUSL, Dr. Bala Sugumar while he was at his Uppodai home in Batticaloa. The kidnappers had demanded the immediate resignation of the Vice Chancellor of EUSL, Dr. S. Ravindranath, before releasing Bala Sugumar.
