Family woman shot dead at Akaraipattu

Unidentified armed men called out a woman from her house at Akkaraipattu in Amparai distrtict Monday around 7:35 p.m and shot her dead on the spot, Akaraipattu police said. The armed men had come looking for the victim's 25 year old son and had killed the mother not finding the son, added the police.

The dead woman was identified as Pathmasiri Leelawathy, 48 of Amaparai road at Akkaraipattu.

Leelawathy's dead body was brought to Akaraipattu hospital and handed over to her relatives after inquest into her death was held, hospital sources said.

Akaraipattu police are investigating into the killing.
