Two fisherman of Madaththuveli in the island of Pungudutheevu who had missed the curfew by 30 minutes yesterday were admitted to the Jaffna hospital this morning for severe contusions and abrasions after being assaulted by Sri Lankan Navy personnel stationed in the area.
Another youth, Poopalasigham Nantharasan, 17, who had been soundly beaten up by the SLA on Tuesday evening in Chavakachcheri following its fracas with the PLOTE was also admitted to the hospital today. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Police handed over to the Jaffna hospital the headless body of youth who was killed in a clash between the Liberation Tigers and the SLA in Manthuvil. Police sources said that the body may be that of a member of the Liberation Tigers killed in an SLA ambush. The PLOTE also checked the body to see whether it was that of one of their cadres who went missing in Chavakachcheri on Tuesday.
