An Indian fisherman was killed when the Sri Lankan Air force strafed and bombed a boat that was seen in the high seas off Kankesanthurai this morning around 6 a.m. His body was recovered by the Sri Lankan Police who brought it to the Jaffna hospital morgue this afternoon.

Police sources said that four persons from the boat were taken into custody.

Dead person has been identified as Govindarajan Shankar from Tuticorin on the southern coast of Tamil Nadu, they added.

They said the boat may have lost its way due to the rough seas and heavy monsoon weather.
