[TamilNet, Tuesday, 30 January 2007, 16:47 GMT]
Unidentified armed men on motorcycle shot and seriously injured an employee of Jaffna University Monday around 5:30 p.m at Nayanmarkattu in Nallur. The victim was rushed to Jaffna Teaching hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Meanwhile, Jaffna police recovered the body of a youth around 23, Tuesday morning at Arukaalmadam area in the Jaffna Municipality limits with gunshot injuries.

The body was handed over to Jaffna Teaching hospital for postmortem examinations.

The Jaffna University employee shot dead was identified as Muthu Peter, 29, the father of one child, a native of Navatkuli in Thenmaradchi and a resident of Nachimarkovilady in Jaffna.

Peter was returning home on motorcycle after visiting his parents in Navatkuli, when he was shot by the killers who came on a motorcycle, at Nayanmarkattu in Nallur.

The youth whose body was recovered by Jaffna police near Arukaalmadam Tuesday may have been abducted elsewhere earlier, brought to Arukaalmadam, and shot dead, local residents said.

Meanwhile, the dead body of a youth with hands bound and gunshot injuries recovered from a derelict well near Murugamoorthy Temple in Chankanai was identified as Balasingham Sriskanth, 27, of Thenirkuliyaldy in Sandilipay.

Sriskanth had been abducted earlier and has been missing for several days.
