55 arrested after claymore attack near Eastern campus

Fifty five people including 25 undergraduates and university
employees were arrested Wednesday by Eravur police after the claymore bomb blast outside the premises of Eastern university located at Vantharoomoolai, Batticaloa, M.Pathmanathan, the acting
Vice Chancellor told media. The arrested, including three female undergraduates, are being detained at Eravur police station for further questioning.
After the bomb blast, the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) cordoned off the university premises, and after an extensive search of all
campus staff and students were allowed to leave only after 7:00 pm, VC said. Meanwhile, on the instruction of Inspector General of Police Victor Perera, two groups of police investigators headed by two superintendents of police were rushed to the campus, university.
