“Successive Sri Lanka Governments have been using education as a tool to punish the Tamil community as part of their campaign to subjugate the Tamils. The recent abductions and harassment of Northeast student community by the Sri Lankan Forces aimed at disrupting the education and instilling fear among the student population should be stopped immediately,” said S. Jeyananthamoorthy, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian for Batticaloa district, Friday.
Batticaloa TNA MP Mr. S. Jeyananthamoorthy.
The MP criticized the present government’s approach towards the Tamil student community, and demanded the release of recently arrested undergraduates and academic employees of the Eastern University. “Sri Lankan Forces not only carry out severe shell and artillery attacks targeting Tamil civilians and their property, but also intimidate and terrorize the student community. "The pre-meditated intimidation of undergraduates and the staff of Eastern University by the Armed Forces should be halted without further delay,” he said.
