Five schools in Eravur relocated

Five schools in Chenkaldy educational zone in Eravur region in
Batticaloa District have been temporarily relocated to alternate
locations due to internal displacement of civilians, zonal education officer A.Sugumaran announced Monday.
The list of the relocated schools and their new locations follows:
- Mayilavadduvan Vidyalayam, Veerakaddu relocated to Vivekanada, Vidyalayam Palacholai
- Malaimagal Vidyalayam, Ilukkupothana relocated to Alaimagal Vidyalayam, Vinayagar village)
- Srivani Vidyalayam, Perumaveli relocated to Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalayam , Siththandy
- Eerakulam Vidyalayam relocated to Vigneswara Vidyalayam, Mavedivembu
- Kannaki Vidyalayam, Periyavadduvaan relocated to Vivekanda Vidyalayam, Uthayanmoolai
Artillery attacks towards areas controlled by Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam (LTTE), transport difficulties prevailing in these
area and internal displacement of civilians from the affected regions were the reasons for relocation of these schools, Mr.Sugumaran said. Kannaki Vidyalayam in Kayaankuda and Kedumavadu Vidyalayam located in LTTE-controlled areas on Baddula Road in Chenkalady continue function in the same locations, he added. Meanwhile, 3125 students displaced from Vaharai and Mutur areas living in temporary camps due to recent hostilities have been provided accommodation in school buildings, T.Ravi, Deputy Director of Kalkuda Educational Zone said. Private classes for the students accommodated in welfare centres are being conducted in nine schools by 150 teachers displaced from Mutur and Vaharai. More students have been arriving from the war-affected areas and being admitted to schools in the area, Mr.Ravi said UNICEF organization is distributing educational materials for the affected students. A total of 8473 students from the families accommodated in interim camps are continuing their studies in Batticaloa Educational Zone, according to Mr Sugumaran.
