Armed person believed to be members of the Sri Lankan armed forces abducted three youths from their homes in Jaffna Peninsula in the last three days, civil society sources from Jaffna said. Relatives of the youths have lodged complaints with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna branch.

Armed paramilitaries visited the house of Kiddinan Kirushnarasa, 34, a civilian in Paththini Amman Kovilady in Valvettiththurai, in Vadamaradchy, and forcibly took him away Wednesday morning, according to relatives complaint.

Meanwhile, armed persons, who identified themselves as Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers, took Sinnaththurai Vijayaruban, 23, of Kadduvan Road, Mallakam in Valikamam region, for questioning in the presence of his parents on Tuesday night. Vijayaruban's whereabouts are not known.

On Monday night, men dressed in military fatigues abducted Selliah Siventhiran, 25, from his home in Madduvil East, Chavakachcheri in Thenmarachchi region.

Although cases of extra judicial arrests, killings and disappearances are on the increase in Jaffna Peninsula and the Sri Lankan armed forces and their allied paramilitaries are blamed, so far no actions have been taken, civil sources and human rights activists said.
