Prayer campaign to force CFA abrogation

A special prayer is to be held at Kandy Dalada Maligawa Saturday in support of the demand that the government should abrogate the ceasefire agreement signed on 22 February 2002 before it completes five-year period next week. Buddhist monks in large numbers are expected to participate in the prayer campaign, sources in Kandy said.

National Bhikku Front is organizing this special prayer.

Meanwhile, the National Integration Union (NIU), a front organization of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to hold a public meeting on February 22 at Hyde Park in Colombo demanding the immediate cancellation of the ceasefire agreement.

Wimal Weerawanse, JVP parliamentary group leader and the spokesman of NIU addressing a press briefing Friday in Colombo asked the government why it could not abrogate the CFA likewise the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the main opposition United National Party (UNP).
