Man shot dead in Uppuveli identified

The body of a male person with gunshot injuries recovered from Uppuveli, a suburb about two km north of Trincomalee town, Saturday morning around 10.30 am by the Uppuveli Police was identifed as belonging to Sivalingam Senthooran of Aathimoddai village along Trincomalee-Nilaveli road, sources in Trincomalee said. He was shot dead by unidentified persons earlier, civil sources in the area.

The body was found blindfolded and hands tied from behind.

Wife of the victim said at the inquest that three unidentified persons came to her house Friday night around 10.30 pm and abducted her husband.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his wife, sources said.

Police had earlier transferred the body to the Trincomalee general hospital by the Uppuveli Police for identification and postmortem examination, sources said.
