Pakistan’s military assistance endangers regional security -TNA
[TamilNet, Monday, 19 February 2007, 15:54 GMT]
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians
Mavai Senathirajah of Jaffna district and
Thurairatnasingham of Trincomalle district
speaking to media on Monday condemned Pakistan’s
offer to provide military assistance to
Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL). The MPs made the
comment when asked about the announcement of arms
purchase from Pakistan by Rohitha Bogallama,
Minister of foreign affairs on Sunday.
"Interference by Pakistan in the ethnic
conflict in Sri Lanka will pose a threat to
India in Asian region. The problem in north and
east is not terrorism. If Pakistan misinterprets
the struggle for self determination as terrorism
and provides military assistance to Sri Lanka ,
GOSL will face serious repercussions. GoSL must
stop the military offensive immediately," the MPs said. Minister Bogollagama returning on Sunday from
Pakistan after a two-day visit speaking to
newsmen at Katunayake Airport announced that the
Government of Pakistan has agreed to cooperate in
whatever possible ways to eradicate terrorism in
Sri Lanka. The minister also said that Pakistan
will also supply arms as well as provide military
training to Sri Lanka (SLA) troops.
