Oxfam funds construction of rice-mills in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi

Two small scale rice-mills funded by Oxfam were opened for operation in Sevanagar in Mullaitivu, and Selvapuram in Kilinochchi during the first half of February. The Economic Consultancy House (TECH), an NGO registered with the Government of Sri Lanka, and operating in the NorthEast, is the implementing agency for the mills, TECH officials said.
The businesses will provide employment opportunities for local women and much needed skills development, civil society sources said. Each mill will employ an instructor and four trainees. Mr A Yogarajah, divisional co-ordinator for TECH opened the Selvapuram mill at a ceremony held early February. TECH executive director S Suhunan unveiled the name board. Administrative officer at the TECH Mullaitivu branch, Ms V. Suganthini presided the opening of the Sevanagar mill on the 6th February. Miss Subajiny, Assistant Government Agent of Oddusuddan unveiled the name board.
