Missed exams rescheduled for Vaharai IDP students

[TamilNet, Thursday, 01 March 2007, 00:11 GMT]
Officials of the Kalkudah Zonal Education office are making arrangements to conduct the special General Certificate of Examination Ordinary Level, and Grade five Scholarship Examinations for the students of Vaharai who missed the Examinations last year due to the military offensive of Sri Lankan armed forces, education officials said. The Zonal education officials and area principals met Wednesday to draw up the plans, sources said.

Including 141 students who missed the scholarship exam, and 161 who missed the GCE (OL) examinations, a total of 304 students from 10 schools are waiting to re-sit the examinations.

The officials are planning to conduct the Examinations in two centers, Valaichchenai Hindu College and Vantharumoolai Sri Maha Vishnu Vidyalayam, as majority of the IDP students live close to the these schools.

The O/L Exam is scheduled for March 10 and the Scholarship on 18.

Although the displaced students fear they will not be able to perform well in the examinations as they are handicapped by the poor living conditions in the shelters, the educational authorities feel that age-requirements allow only limited delays in holding examinations.
